Uploading | Hassle

This is not a plea, this is a demand. Keep your video BELOW 250 Mega bytes if it is not in High Definition. I do not know of more than two or three people with High Definition Capture Cards, there for a video should not exceed the 250 mega byte rule for Gearsopedia. I am sick of videos taking hours and hours to upload. If your video is above 250 mega bytes I will NOT upload it. It is time consuming and I am not going to try to re render it and ruin the quality. When you render your video make it a .wmv file with a 3 MB per second Template. If this is done and your video is below 8 minutes, it should not exceed 250 Mega bytes. I am sorry if this seems annoying, but trust me it is more annoying for me to have to slow down my whole internet for 5-6 hours to upload a video. Thanks..

A few important notes

Q: Where is the top 5 clips of the week.
A: As of the most recent Top 5 Plays of the Week Video (#15), we are discontinuing the series for Gears of War. The series will be picked up again for Gears of War 2 in the form of the Top 10 Plays of the Month. The reasoning behind this is partly due to the fact that we receive hundreds of submissions per week, and the choice may be too difficult. Within a month, we have more clips, and we also have more dominant footage showing up over time -in addition to more time to prepare.
Q: Why did my video get removed.
A: At times, we actually do fuck up and upload a montage that was undeserving and it usually gets flamed. I remove it to prevent too many people from attacking the montage and dropping your self esteem. However, almost all videos removed are because of copy right laws from YouTube. Basically, YouTube has hit everyone hard lately with copy rights. YouTube partners now have a program that allows them to find videos with similar audio. The YouTube partner(Without even watching the video) will claim it to be their copy right, and the video will need to be removed or you will have to replace the audio (Something I do not want to do, because the audio YouTube offers is terrible and will not go with the game at all, and when YouTube changes the audio, it ruins the quality of the over all video, making it extremely unappealing an an instant flame fest.

Our History/What we Do

Gearsopedia | History

Gearsopedia is the world's largest and most prominent source for Gears of War gaming with more than 4000 active members on the site, and thousands of viewers. We are the most active hosting resource for the game. We upload everything from montages we feel meet our standards, to editing and graphics tutorials, to Top 5 Clips of the Week.

Gearsopedia has seen rapid and great expansion over the past few months. Starting as a small group devoted to hosting notable videos for the community, Gearsopedia grew into the definite community to Gears of War -the home for all Gears of War players. We are thankful that our viewers and active members on the Gearsopedia Website supported us and allowed us continue this far. Now, we are going to push farther.

In the coming month, Gearsopedia will be having a make-over. To assure the status of Gearsopedia, we will improve Staff-Community Relations as well as to improving the organization and professionalism input into our featured videos. With the launch of Gears of War 2 just around the corner, we predict a potential outburst of new and returning players coming to the Gearsopedia Community, maybe up to tripling our size. With this rapid growth of size, we will be spending more time of interactive features, such as tournaments, ladders, tutorials, and in-game featurettes.

Gearsopedia is still vastly growing and with continued support it will keep growing. Our goal is to achieve a YouTube partnership to generate money for the website, and our ultimate goal is to have 20,000 subscribers by the end of the first year of Gears of War Two's release. Although this is a huge reach, it is attainable and will take the help and support of everyone to accomplish.

Gearsopedia | What we do
When Gearsopedia was created, the main thing it was created for was uploading the latest and greatest montages. The staff felt that the good montages weren't being seen by enough of the Gears of War community. We felt Gearsopedia would allow people to witness the most entertaining Gears of War videos.

Gearsopedia later expanded its horizons. We decided to begin to make
Editing Tutorials, Top 5 Clips of The Week and now Graphics Tutorials. In essence, we are the ultimate page/website for avid gamers/editors or anyone who just wants to be entertained for that matter.

Montage Selection | What We Look For

Q: Gearsopedia, what do you look for in montages? What do I need to do to make my montage worthy of being uploaded?

A: Well, each montage is different from the other in terms of the feel and entertainment. Anything from the syncing to the playing style the player has can affect how entertaining a montage is -and there is a lot of opinion involved in the selection process. However, you can try to follow these general guidelines to help you make a montage that is above the standards -otherwise "GoP-Worthy."

High Quality Video Footage
  • 720x480+ Video Size
  • High Bit rates (3MB/S+)
  • Wide screen Aspect Ratio
Superior Game play
  • In order for the montage to be considered “good” game play-wise, it must portray and that shows pure ability or potential within the player. In other words, it must look as if the player is footage that is extraordinary, consistent and skillful.
  • The gameplay must show proficiency in the time’s standard skill level. The only montages that can be uploaded for the original Gears of War are those that surpass the skill level of Generation 6 or higher videos. On the other hand, the videos pertaining to Gears of War 2 are uploaded as the standard bar is set.
  • Consistency, skill, agility, and strategy are the key features that are to be looked for in a montage. The play must show that he is capable of performing his best in every game to make the montage define his skill level. Consistency is shown by the amount of multi-kills that the player can achieve; skill is shown by the hit percentage a player averages; agility is shown by the player’s ability to survive and kill within pressured situations; strategy is shown by the uniqueness in the playing style and the logic a player shows.
Expressive Post-Production
  • The post-production, or editing, in a montage must show clarity and flow while still maintaining a level of entertainment.
  • The element of syncing is REQUIRED in every montage that is uploaded. Syncing is the connection between the audio and video elements of a video.
  • Over-editing is when effects are added unnecessarily; effects that don’t contribute to the flow or syncing in a video. Over-editing is a major turn down in the field of entertaining. A video that utilizes heavy effects isn’t necessarily over-edited.
  • To find out more information regarding the post-production levels in videos and to acquire knowledge that is more in-depth, feel free to contact the post-production specialists from the Gearsopedia Staff.

Hopefully, you have taken in the straightforward features of a crisp and "good" montage. Here at Gearsopedia, we strive to improve the quality of the media that this community outputs -these guidelines are perhaps the best rules to follow in order to create a popular and entertaining video.

Rejected Videos | How it helps

In our experience of reviewing and rejecting videos, we have come across a few people who are really ungrateful of what we do. So we are here to explain how we are helping (Yes helping) you when we reject your video

1. We are saving you from
embarrassment - When we reject your video, it is because we think it is not up to par with video standards nowadays. So what usually happens when a sub-par montage is uploaded to Youtube? Simple, people generally flame the hell out of it. Youtube has one of the harshest and most ignorant audiences on the Internet, and when I reject your video, I am saving you from all those flames. We absolutely hate it when people just tear apart something that had a lot of time and effort put into it. Believe it or not, we care for your feelings even though I did reject your video.

2. We are helping you
improve - With each and every video I reject, I send back a critique explaining exactly why I rejected it and the aspects in which the video was lacking. Sometimes, I even provide examples to help you understand what it takes to bring your video up to par. Read these critiques. They will give you a better understanding of what standards are nowadays and tell you how to make an a great video video.
